There are numerous places to visit whether it is historic venues, fantastic scenery or partaking in outdoor pursuits such as walking, cycling, climbing, bird watching, canoeing, sailing, golf, skiing, both winter or summer. Located next to the cycle path (Loch Lomond 2 miles and Helensburgh 3 miles) at the foot of the glen, there is fresh air in abundance!

The Hill House (National Trust property) – Helensburgh
Charles Rennie Mackintosh was a revolutionary architect and designer and The Hill House is considered to be his domestic masterpiece. Mackintosh and his wife Margaret created almost everything, from the building itself to the furniture and textiles. More examples of his work can be seen in Glasgow.

Luss conservation village – western shore of Loch Lomond

Located on the banks of Loch Lomond, off the A82, 5 miles north of Crosskeys. Occupation of this area dates back to medieval times, but much of the village and the neat rows of cottages were built in the 18th and 19th centuries to house workers from the nearby slate quarries and featured in the 1980’s TV soap ‘Take the High Road’.

The Duke’s Pass – starts at Aberfoyle

Regarded as one of Britain’s best drives, the A821 road between Aberfoyle and Loch Achray leads you through some of the most scenic parts of the iconic Trossachs landscape.

Whisky distillery tour

You cannot come to Scotland without discovering the secrets of our ‘water of life’. There are many distilleries near to Crosskeys:- Glengoyne (Killearn), Deanstone (Doune), Auchentoshan (Clydebank/Glasgow), Glenturret (Crieff), Eradour (Pitlochry), Blair Athol (Pitlochry) Aberfeldy and Oban.

The Falkirk Wheel – 12 miles south of Stirling

The World’s first and only rotating boat lift. Completed in 2002 the huge Falkirk wheel re-connects the Fourth & Clyde and Union canals after the 11 original lock gates were dismantled in the 1930’s.

The preserved buildings from the 1700s give an authentic insight into how people lived and worked in the north and west of Scotland. You can wander freely around the houses and farm buildings furnished with everyday objects from time gone by.

Cruise Loch Lomond
Located at Tarbet and open all year, they offer a waterbus service and ferries across Loch Lomond.
Trips available include a ½ day explore on Inchcailloch Island or you can get the ferry across to Inversnaid and explore the walks and waterfall.

Scottish Submarine Centre
Located in Helensburgh and open all year
Situated in a converted church this small museum houses only one of two surviving cold war midget submarine X51, also known as HMS Stickleback. Projectors help visualise the interior (as you cannot go inside). Video explains the history of HMS Stickleback including its journey to Helensburgh.
